CANCUN, Mexico: Indonesia played an important role in a making changes at the climate summit negotiation table, a diplomat said.
“Many countries appreciate Indonesia for being one of the main catalysts for fundamental change,” Eddy Pratomo, Indonesian ambassador to Germany, who is a senior advisor for the Indonesian delegation at the summit, said in a press release made available Friday.
Indonesia was among a handful of developing countries that agreed on the role of measurable, reportable and verifiable mechanism, known as MRV, to be applied in the emission reduction effort.
Entering the fourth day of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Conference of Parties 16 in Cancun, Mexico, the situation at the negotiation table appeared less dynamic compared to that of the last summit in Copenhagen, Denmark. “The Cancun summit focuses more on trust restoration among countries,” he said. “This is crucial to determine the success in the next summit in Durban, South Africa.
The Indonesian delegation has faced tough negotiations at the summit, ranging from negotiations on technology transfer, adaptation, financing and reducing emission through deforestation and forest degradation, known as REDD, Pratomo went on. — JP
